In honor of Black History Month, the Pan-African Cultural Community and MAAT Bookstore are proud to sponsor the 10th Annual "Freedom to Read" Black History Books for Children event. This event will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 3455 MLK Dr., San Antonio, Texas.
Event Purpose: The purpose of this event is to increase children's knowledge of Black History, foster the development of strong reading habits, and encourage skill-building.
What's in Store:
- Black History Book Exhibit for Children
- Recommended Reading List on Black History
- Reading Time with a special guest
- Lunch will be provided
- FREE BLACK HISTORY BOOK GIVEAWAY for children in attendance!
How You Can Help: To support the FREE BLACK HISTORY BOOK GIVEAWAY, we invite individuals, businesses, and organizations to make a $13 donation to help purchase books for the giveaway. Children will be able to select from a range of impactful Black history books, such as:
- "Book of Black Heroes: Great Women in the Struggle"
- "Book of Black Heroes From A to Z"
- "Book of Black Heroes: Scientists, Healers & Inventors"
- "Who is the Greatest African?"
These books will inspire our youth by showcasing the lives and contributions of historical and contemporary African Americans.
