The charity we are doing this for is Ronald McDonald Edinburgh House which some of my babyballet stars have needed to use across the years! Here is also more info about the charity for anyone who would like to know!!
“Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides “home away from home” accommodation for families when they have a child receiving care or treatment in hospital. We believe that families are stronger when they can stay together and close to their child’s bedside, whether that’s for a few nights or many months.
Of the 14 Houses run by RMHC UK, the Ronald McDonald House Edinburgh is the newest. It opened in March 2021 and has welcomed over 1,500 families through its doors from across Scotland and beyond - families who are often far from home and their local support networks.
The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People has over 230 beds and specialises in spinal surgery, neurology, plastic surgery, keyhole surgery and major trauma. Therefore, patients aged 0-16 often travel from across Scotland to receive the specialist treatment and care they need, with their parents by their sides, but far from home. One family who stayed in the Edinburgh House travelled 394 miles from their home in Shetland.
Alongside 25 ensuite family bedrooms, the House provides communal kitchen and dining spaces, a bright family lounge, a fully equipped play room and laundry facilities.
However, the Edinburgh House is so much more. Every effort is made to make families feel at home and still able to experience moments of fun and joy, even during the most difficult of times. Staff and volunteers run arts and crafts activities, movie nights, relaxation sessions, wellbeing walks and pamper treatments. We never miss an opportunity for a celebration, whether that’s for a child’s birthday or for Christmas, Easter or Halloween.”
