About this Event
Please join our 10A-12P Journaling Club at Los Encinos State Historic Park in San Fernando Valley/Los Angeles CA!
Lovely to meet you!
My name is Ashley and I'm the California Naturalist and Art Therapist hosting this journaling club.
If you're interested in meeting folks who enjoy nature, art, journaling, scrapbooking, collaging, bookmaking, and other creative arts at parks then this is the event for you~
We will have a FREE "open studio" for community members to come and make art between 10A-12P at Los Encinos State Historic Park! It is a small, precious cultural site conveniently located in a neighborhood with free parking and restrooms.
You are welcome to bring your lunch/snacks/hydration to be comfortable and enjoy the park. You can also bring personal journals or materials for artmaking, though we will have some basic creative supplies available to use for free! :)
DESCRIPTION OF THE JOURNALING CLUB:
Every Sunday on these dates, we will host a journaling club to teach you different journaling techniques and support your creative process. We encourage you to come to each event to get the most out of the experience, yet all are welcome to come to a session or two that inspires you:
1/11 - Session 1: How to Make a Zine
2/8 - Session 2: How to Make a Paper Bag Book
3/8 - Session 3: How to Make an Accordion Book
4/12 - Session 4: How to Make a Mixed Media Book
In addition, anyone who joins our journaling events and fills out a junior ranger book gets a junior ranger badge! For more info on free junior ranger programs, please click here: https://kids.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=22783
DESCRIOTION OF THE "OPEN STUDIO":
An "open studio" is an event where artists open their studios to the public for a limited time. The goal of an "open studio" is to encourage creativity and experimentation, and to provide a space for cultural exchange and conversation. We are grateful to have access to the lovely, peaceful park and amenities at Los Encinos State Historic Park. There is no pressure to come/stay for the entire time. Showing up is good enough and our staff will be there to support you. :) <3
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
I have a MA in Art Therapy with a Specialization in Counseling and I am certified in nature journaling through the Wild Wonder Foundation. These sessions are informal classes where I will share information about journaling, show examples of my own journals, and provide informational zines, art materials, and other resources for you to use. :) Here's a video example of what I teach: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8L5GT9o/
