On World Op Shop Day, Saturday 18 October 2025, Uniting Op Shops are hosting a one-day treasure hunt you won’t want to miss.This year marks a big milestone, 100 years since the term “op shop” was first coined in Australia.
Across our shops, 100 special items will be up for grabs for just $1 each. Look for the price tags marked with a gold sticker. These high-value treasures are waiting for lucky shoppers to uncover.

In the 1920s, Lady Millie Tallis introduced the name “op shop” as a dignified and powerful way to give pre-loved goods a new life while raising funds for St Vincent’s Hospital. Since then, op shops have become a uniquely Australian and New Zealand tradition, blending sustainability, creativity and community impact.
Visit your local Uniting Op Shop on 18 October and see if you can uncover a $1 treasure. Every purchase helps reduce waste, extend the life of clothing and goods, and support community programs.
