About this Event
This is our 10th Annual, 100 Mile Walk to Wendover. This is the Longest Suicide Prevention Walk in the Nation. Because this walk will close out the first decade of this amazing event, we want it to be Epic. For those of you who haven't been on this walk before let me tell you a little about it.
To be able to take part in an event this amazing, there are some requirements. This is a very expensive event to pull off as you can imagine. So if you want to be part of the few that can say they have done it, you will have to do the following. You will have to register on Eventbrite, and pay the entrance fee. Then the work begins. This walk funds so much of what we do throughout the year, and it is our largest fundraiser. Because of this we require walkers to raise $500 each, that will go towards helping Life's Worth Living Foundation 501c3, make a difference where we live. We are an all volunteer non-profit, so you can be assured the money raised goes directly to our three fold mission, to Raise Awareness, Educate and Prevent Suicide. The sooner you register the more time you have for fundraising. Please know that if you are walking in rememberance of someone, you will have the opportinity to share their story. When people know your "Why" they will give. I still remember the Walk-a-Thon days of my youth when I would walk for a cause and raise over $100. As adults, we have the ability to go much bigger. That is exactly what this walk is, BIGGER!
You might be thinking what do I get for all of this? Let me tell you. You registration gets you a Walk to Wendover T-shirt and swag. Beautiful tour buses, Sherrif support vehicles for protection. You will have all the drinks and snacks along the way, as well as lunches both days. You will receive hotel rooms in Wendover for Saturday night, as well as an after party to celebrate your accomplishments. The most important thing you will receive is the healing this walk provides, and the lifelong friendships you will find along the way as well as the bragging rights that you survived 100 mile walk across some of the most barren terrain this Country has to offer.
This walk is done in a Ragnar fashion. You will not have to walk to entire 100 miles. We walk in 5 mile sections, with tour buses behind us the entire time. You can walk as much or as little as you want. This walk starts at Tooele City Hall at the crack of dawn Friday morning. Here you will start your day reflecting on why we are doing such a wild thing. You will hear from a phenomenal guest speaker who will pump you up. News crews will likely be in attendance documenting this epic journey. Then at 7am on the button, we walk right our the front door and the journey begins. We will walk in the neigborhood of 12 hours that day, then return to City Hall so you can get a good nights rest. Saturday morning, again at the crack of dawn you will find yourself back at City Hall, this time moving a little slower, a little more sunburned, and a lot more sore. Here we will board the buses and return to where we left off the day prior, and begin it all again. After giving about everything you have to give, you will arrive in Wendover to a Police escort to the Famous "Wendover Will" for a group photo. Then the buses will take us to the Nugget Hotel & Casino where you will check into your rooms. You will have the chance to shower and eat on your own, before the buses take you to our suprise after party, which I will tell you will be over the top. Together we will celebrate as we should the fact that we did what many think is impossible. Sunday morning at 11am, the buses will be waiting to whisk your tired worn out bodies back to real life and reality. Where likely you will never forget the experience you have just taken part in.
We will spend 20+ hours walking across the desert for Suicide Prevention. We will learn that we can do hard things. Things that seem impossible to one can be accomplished together. We learn that pain is only but for a minute. We learn that everyone has a story, but that we are the authors and we determine how our story goes. We learn that family isn't just blood. We are people who love each other despite our flaws and imperfections, we are more interested in where we are going then where we have been. We learn from those who have lived it, and those who have walked it, even those who were brought into our paths along the way. We learn to find beauty in diviersity. We begin to see possibiility where others see impossibility. We will find healing in sharing. We will find that in lifting others we receive strength. We will find that the road of life is long, and though we may at times feel like giving up that others will help you through. We will find the sense of accomplishment that comes from crossing the finish line together. We will find that it the relationships we make in this life that matter. Part of my story is written in your ink. We are better from the experience, wiser from what we will learn, and ready for the challenges that lie ahead. I mean we will have walked 100 miles in the desert, we can accomplish anything!
