10 week Pilates for Beginners Course - Allestree

The course will be a 10 week Pilates for Beginners course, starting on Thursday 18th Jan 2024.
The way the course will work is that the FIRST WEEK WILL BE FREE so you get to come and see if it’s for you, and then you pay for the remaining 9 weeks in a block booking to secure your space on the rest of the course. The cost for the full course is £90 (which includes a video recording of that class available for the remainder of the week).
Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who is completely new to Pilates, or for anyone who has had a break from practicing Pilates for a while. There will be options provided to make each exercise easier or harder depending on how you are feeling. There is no pressure to do anything that isn't right for you, and I encourage you to listen to your body and rest if you need to, so don't worry in the slightest about "not being able to do it".
What kind of Pilates is this?
This is a mat Pilates class, so the majority of the exercises will be floor based. The style of Pilates will be contemporary/ modern Pilates - which means we will not just stick rigidly to the original 34 exercises designed by Joseph Pilates. The world has moved on significantly in the last hundred years since he created Pilates and not only has our scientific understanding of the body and movement patterns advanced, the average person's body has changed significantly since then due to our lifestyles requiring us to sit at computers for hours on end etc which has changed our posture and movement patterns.
As we start to progress past the basics, if people want to, we will introduce some small equipment such as Pilates balls, Pilates rings, resistance bands and potentially hand weights.
Why is this a course rather than a drop in class?
1) I can plan and deliver better classes that meet your needs when I know in advance who will be in the class, and what injuries and health conditions they are working with. This allows me to plan adaptations or alternative exercises that accommodate those health conditions and injuries. With a drop in class people often only book on a few minutes before they arrive which does not allow for this time to plan.
2) If there are lots of people with multiple injuries/ health conditions I can cap the number of participants on the course so that I can give people the attention they deserve, this isn’t really possible when you don’t know who is coming every week.
3) If people have paid upfront they are less likely to keep saying to themselves - "I’ll go next week", and then next week it’s "I’ll go next week" - it’s a kick up the butt to get on with it! Putting in the work weekly for a minimum of 10 sessions will mean that you’ll see results - you’ll move better, feel better and look better. Joseph Pilates famously said that after 10 sessions you'll feel a difference, after 20 sessions you'll see a difference, and after 30 sessions you'll have a whole new body....But that will only happen if you practice with regularity rather than every now and then.
4) The exercises/ the difficulty will progress week on week knowing that you have been practicing at least once a week (but there will always be easier options).
5) I know I can afford to pay for the venue - unfortunately these days, like everything else in life, room hire costs are now really quite expensive (as the ones that aren't expensive are fully booked!). A lot of venues require you to pay upfront and quite a while in advance. Running a drop in class can result in not making any profit after paying for room costs. Also, the amount of time that goes into delivering an hours class is usually an additional 3-4 hours of work a week in the background - planning and running through the class in advance, travel and room set up time, so I need to know I am covering costs for this time.
The class will be recorded, and you will have access to it for the rest of the week, so should you want to, you can do it again at home as many times as you have the time/ energy to, and also if you can't make it in person that week you still have access to the class.
