Registration is now open for the third 10-week session for 2022, which gets underway on the 29th of August. As always, we have 6 concurrent groups - 4 in the main program, and 2 in the "Junior" program.All groups study different levels and styles of jazz under the tutelage and musical direction of veteran jazz artist Greg Lyons in our purpose-built studios in Chinatown.
Each group is built to suit the repertoire and style performed, and all participants are assigned to those that will most benefit their musical development.
The main program concentrates on modern jazz, in most authentic styles, with a particular flavour of Brazil, Cuba and New Orleans as a constant, but moving from intermediate level up to advanced featuring the latest styles including odd metric structures and non-tonal harmony.
The Junior program is concerned with the tradition, and though the eclectic global ethos is still there, we work on the more fundamental aspects of improvised performance.
Course fee for the main program is $900 per 10-week course, and for the Juniors $700..
