This outstanding opportunity to listen to performances from two of the world’s premier pipers is co-sponsored by the Nicol-Brown Chalice and the Institute of Musical Traditions.
The 41st Nicol-Brown Amateur Invitational Contest will be held at St. Mark Presbyterian Church in Rockville, Maryland, hosted in partnership with the Institute of Musical Traditions. The weekend will begin with a judges’ recital, a rare opportunity to listen to performances from the world’s premier pipers and authorities on pipe music. The contest and award ceremony will follow on Saturday, October 11.
Willie McCallum, from Bearsden, Scotland, is legendary in the piping world, with a remarkable career in solo piping, pipe bands, and teaching. Willie’s solo piping results are astounding, including a breathtaking nine Glenfiddich Championships. In December of 2023, Willie was inducted into the Scots Traditional Music Hall of Fame in recognition of his years of excellence as a musical performer. Willie is equally well-known for his generosity and brilliance as a teacher—in private lessons, at piping schools around the world, and as the Piping Degree Tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
