AVERY O WILLIAMS is a screenwriter, director and professor with a BA from Morehouse College and an MFA from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts. He wrote the screenplays for the Lifetime Original movies, Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowen Story starring Paige Hurd and Stephen Bishop, and Abducted at an HBCU: A Black Girl Missing Movie starring Naturi Naughton and executive produced by Garcelle Beauvais.
In 2022 Avery directed the pilot episode for the Emmy nominated digital series, Intersection, which premiered on PBS / WABE TV. Avery also co-directed the feature films Misguided Behavior and Skinned. As a screenwriter, Avery co-wrote the feature Directing Eddie voted Best Comedy, 2001 New York International Independent Film & Video Festival; the film short The Willie Witch Projects (distr. by Trimark Pictures in the compilation The Bogus Witch Project) and the award-winning short Notes In A Minor Key for Hollywood Pictures.
He has written six plays that have been produced for the theater and co-produced Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues directed by Penny Marshall (2005) and Penny Johnson Jerald (2006) as well as Tom Coles' Medal of Honor Rag, starring Heavy D, directed by Delroy Lindo and executive produced by Will Smith.
He currently has two more Lifetime movies in development, is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc and one of the founding faculty members of the Cinema, Television and Emerging Media Studies Department at Morehouse College in Atlanta GA where he currently serves as a tenure track Assistant Professor.
