An intimate poetry reading & conversation circle for women
Cuppa, Cake & Courage is a warm, safe, women-only gathering where we come together in cosy cafés to share in poetry, conversation, and collective healing.
Guided by J. L. Givens’ powerful poetry collection Her Body Remembers, this event explores the ways a woman’s body holds her history — the strength, the trauma, the fire, and the whispered resilience passed down through generations.
But this is not just a reading.
This is a reclamation.
Woven throughout the evening are reflections drawn from J. L. Givens’ historical children’s book The Witch & The Snitch and the stories of the women persecuted during the Scottish Witch Trials. Their echoes meet the modern voice — their silencing contrasted with the way today’s women rise, speak, and shape their own narrative.
Cuppa, Cake & Courage reminds us that we are the descendants of the women who survived, the daughters of those who weren’t allowed to speak, and the storytellers who will not be quiet.
