We are so excited to mark National Poetry Day with a free open mic night at Firebird Café — and it’s all thanks to the amazing Friends of Horowhenua Libraries (FOHL), who sponsor this event. 💛

Celebrate National Poetry Day with an evening that’s all about words, rhythm—and pizza. Join us at Firebird Café for Poetry and Pizza, an open mic night where anyone can take the stage to share their original poetry, a favourite piece by another poet, or simply come along to enjoy the vibe.
This free event is part of our Book Crawl series, designed to take the library out into the community in fun and unexpected ways. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or someone who scribbles lines in a notebook on the bus, this is your chance to step up to the mic and be heard.
We'll have a warm, welcoming atmosphere, a great crowd, and—did we mention?—free pizza for participants. No registration is required; just turn up ready to listen or speak. All ages and experience levels are welcome.
