🌟 BIG STATE BLUES BAND 🌟 John Burgess
Drums, vocals
John grew up in a musical family in upstate New York. His father was an Alto Sax jazz man and when 6 year old John found that sax under the bed, he just had to play it, so he did. He also picked up piano, oboe, and drums along the way too. With formal performance and theory training through college, and playing first chair in a variety of working rock bands and jazz orchestras and symphonies. Later, After spending several years in England in the military and as a working rock drummer, he came to find drumming required his full attention. After returning to the States, as a civilian, he worked with several different working rock bands on the east coast before settling in San Antonio in 1980. There he worked in San Antonio and the surrounding communities in both country and rock genres until 1985 when he retired from music to pursue an Engineering career, where he spent the next 35 years. Following his retirement as an Engineer, he sequestered himself during the Covid pandemic, preparing for a return to his roots as a stage drummer, concentrating on blues.
David Williams
Bass, vocals
David Williams is an American musician, guitarist / bassist and singer. He is noted for his dazzling finger-style guitar picking in a variety of unique genres. His soulful vocals accompany the music. David mixes elements of Americana, Latin, classical, gospel, honkey-tonk, rock, blues and funk in an upbeat gumbo of sound. He has engaged audiences in many and varied venues in San Antonio and elsewhere, including The Pearl, The Liberty Bar, The San Antonio Riverwalk, Great Day SA and The Garden Tea Lounge. He perfected his craft while growing up in a variety of diverse cultures and locations including, the Caribbean, Mexico, Virginia, California and Texas.
David Flores
Lead vocals and rhythm guitar
Growing up in San Antonio and playing music his whole life, inspired by singers such as, Ray Charles, Eric Burdon, David Clayton Thomas, Michael McDonald, and enjoying the sound of the Tejano genre, including Sunny and the Sun liners, Emilio Navaira, 50s, 60’s, classic country, has all influenced his vocal style.
Now playing selected classic rock and blues, He is the frontman of Big State Blues Band.
Robert Saunders
Lead Guitar
Longtime Southern California blues rocker Robert Saunders landed in Austin in 2004. He immediately immersed himself in the local music scene playing in a number of bands and musical projects. Moving to New Braunfels in 2019 and finally finding his place in the middle of the I35 corridor between San Antonio and Austin. He brings his own unique style of blues rock that is both fresh yet familiar.
