Este Martes 10 de Octubre 2023 ven a nuestro ¡Taller especial de Shag, con Patricio Espinoza, bailarín y profesor de Shag de Chile!
Patricio es profesor de hace más de 5 años seguidos en Chile de estos bailes; pero baila desde 2011 en general. Desde el 2018 hasta la actualidad viaja frecuentemente a Estados Unidos y Europa, aprendiendo directamente de los mayores exponentes de cada baile Swing existente estos días, realizando entrevistas y una exhaustiva investigación de los orígenes de cada baile, incluyendo: Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, St. Louis Shag, Balboa, Bal-Swing, Boogie Woogie, Soul Dancing, Smooth Lindy, Big Apple, Varsity Drag, y otros.
Si un baile que lo caracteriza al nivel mundial es el COLLEGIATE SHAG ? habiendo sido finalista y ganador en multiples eventos entre 2018 a 2023, como: Camp Hollywood, BCN Shag Festival, Hot Rhythm Holiday y SWINGdepenDANCE, LA Shag Festival. Además de incluso realizar Workshops en Phoenix, Arizona (US); Barcelona; y Online durante la pandemia siendo invitado como profesor en el evento del proyecto What a Shag (de Arnas & Egle, Lituania) llamado The Bunny Hop Day (Abril 2021). Poseedor del 1er Shag Spirit Award a nivel mundial.
Conoce el Shag desde el 2013 observado por primera vez online (YouTube), cuando aún no diferenciaba estilos entre Lindy Hop, u otros. Y desde 2016 que lo baila a tiempo completo. Su estilo se basa en los orígenes del baile mantiendo la técnica original utilizada históricamente, tomando como base los bailes previos a este y los años de su formación.
-- ACERCA DEL WORKSHOP --
Este taller está dirigido a todos los niveles, en especial a quienes llevan mucho tiempo en el baile (Intermedios/Avanzados); y si jamás has bailando Shag también puedes participar. Debido a que trabajaremos una base de movimiento diferente.
En este taller vamos a trabajar en la esencia del Collegiate Shag, que lo convierte en un baile único/distinguido del resto de bailes Jazz y Swing. Observando las técnicas, conexión líder/follower y movimientos que bailarines originales utilizaban y que hacía del Shag un baile dinámico, rítmico y creativo.
Estudiar y trabajar las bases que hicieron del baile ser tan divertido y original. Con el objetivo de llevar la danza a un nivel más alto de creatividad.
Implementaremos ideas como:
- Cambios de peso
- Postura / Conexión de torso para sentir cambios rítmicos y de movimiento.
- Técnicas base al pisar (Base movement)
Y trabajar desde esa base. Además propondremos un par de ideas para crear movimientos, pero te alentaremos a que tú crees tus ideas también.

Tuesday October 10, 2023 come check our our special Shag Workshop, with Patricio Espinoza, Shag dancer and teacher from Chile!
Patricio has been dancing Shag since 2016 and is dedicated full time to studying and the researching in order improve and understand vintage dances, such as Varsity Drag, Truckin', Charleston or the Big Apple. He is a teacher and professional dancer specializing in African-American dances considered "Vintage/Retro" (1910s-1960s), which include the Swing Dances.
-- ABOUT THE WORKSHOP --
This workshop is for all levels, especially for those who have been dancing for a long time (Intermediate/Advanced); and even if you've never danced Shag before, you can also participate because we will be working from the ground up and studying a different base of movements.
In this workshop we will work on the essence of Collegiate Shag, which makes it unique/distinguished from other Jazz and Swing dances -- observing the techniques, leader/follower connection and movements that the original dancers used and that made the Shag a dynamic, rhythmic and creative dance.
We'll be studying and working on the basics that made the dance so fun and original, and aiming to take your dance to a higher level of creativity.
We will implement ideas such as:
- Weight shifts
- Posture / Torso connection to feel rhythmic and movement changes.
- Base Movement (Base Movement) techniques: Toddle / Hop / Leap / Kick / Jump
Using that as a starting point, we will also propose a couple of ideas to create movements, but we will encourage you to create your own ideas as well.
