☛Exhibition Opening Talk | Sensory Fieldwork and Approaches to Creation: Transitions between Video and Film☚
▎Speakers
Roan Ching-Yueh (Novelist, Architect, Critic, and Curator)
Chu Chun-Teng (Artist)
▎Moderator
Yizai Seah (Curator)

▎Talk Description
From film to video, and then back to film—although continually moving across different interfaces of visual language, artist Chu Chun-Teng has maintained a consistent line of creative thought. His 2017 solo exhibition August 15 at the Hong Foundation marked his return to narrative video after a long phase of conceptual video and object-based installation art. Beginning in 2021 with the development of Eel as a video work and culminating in the 2025 film of the same title, Chu’s practice signals another turning point in his approach to moving images.
This opening talk invites Roan Ching-Yueh to join the artist in conversation. Beyond sharing the artist’s year-long alternative fieldwork experience in Shezidao and the personal sensitivities that drive his creative process, the discussion will also pivot around two crucial milestones—August 15 and Feral Shade—to unfold how Chu conceives the transitions between video and film, as well as the shift from working as an individual artist to collaborating within the structure of a film production team.
