About this Event

This April, we will screen the "Not the Foreign Force" documentary in the San Francisco Bay Area, creating a space for us to process our collective memory around the COVID-19 protests in China, also known as the “A4 Revolution,” and to support the arrested director Chen Pinlin (Plato).

Chen Pinlin, the director of the documentary "Not the Foreign Force," was detained at the end of 2023 in Shanghai. On January 5, 2024, he was formally arrested by the Baoshan Branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau on account of “Picking quarrels and provoking trouble”. His case was transferred for prosecution on February 18. In addition to Chen Pinlin, there are currently an unknown number of young participants in the "White Paper Movement" who have been silenced, arrested, and gone missing by the Chinese authorities. Among them, Uyghur college student Kamile was sentenced to three years in Pr*son, and Uyghur singer Yashar was detained for a second time. We want to raise awareness around those who have lost their freedom as a result of participating in or commemorating the “A4 Revolution”.

  • The documentary comes with Traditional Chinese and English subtitles. After the screening we will have an open discussion and have activities to show our support for the director.
  • This event is free. RSVP HERE.
  • We will have a limited number of "Urumqi Road" pins for sale at the event.
  • We encourage the participants to be cautious and protect your privacy. Free face masks will be provided at the event.
  • Audio and video recording is prohibited throughout the entire event. If you have any media interview needs, please contact @star_shiner2013 on Instagram or reach out to [email protected] ahead of time.
