Synopsis"Kathopokathon” (Lover’s Discourse) takes up the daunting task of adapting to theatre the iconic series of poetic conversation of the same name by renowned Bengali poet Purnendu Patri. At its core a romantic conversation between a man and a woman in love, “Kathopokathon”, transcends a stereotypical lover’s discourse in time and space to also become: an eulogy for the city of Kolkata, a Barthian orchestra of love’s language, emotions and feelings, a proclamation of the primal longing for unconditional love in a canny and concrete world; a peak into the heart of human consciousness haunted by ravages of time and mortality. While poetry has remained a natural home to many regional, vernacular performance traditions across India, modern theatre, probably owing to diktats of naturalism has been less accommodating of poetic thought and expression. G-Minor’s “Kathopokathon” takes up the difficult task of creating a language of theatre on stage which can match poetry feelings for feelings.
