Lekcija sniegs ieskatu ģentrifikācijas teorijā un praksē, tās attīstības tendencēs un veidos, kā šie procesi tiek atspoguļoti populārajā kultūrā. PhD Marc Morell prezentēs tēmu caur filmu kolāžu, savienojot mākslu un sociālās cīņas. Pēc lekcijas sekos diskusija, kurā tiks analizēts konkrēts gadījums no Maljorkas, ilustrējot ģentrifikācijas procesus arī citviet pasaulē.
Par lektoru:
PhD Marc Morell ir sociālais antropologs, kurš pēta šķiru raksturu telpas veidošanā kapitālistiskajā sabiedrībā. Viņa iepriekšējie pētījumi aptver Maljorku un Maltu (tūrisma politika, mantojuma veidošana, ģentrifikācija). Šobrīd viņš pēta mākslas politisko ekonomiku un tās saikni ar sociālajām kustībām Baltijas pilsētvidē.

This lecture will explore the theory and practice of gentrification, its latest developments, and how popular culture engages with these issues. PhD Marc Morell will present the topic through a film collage, connecting art and activism. The session will conclude with a discussion, featuring a case study from Majorca, illustrating how gentrification processes unfold in different contexts.
About the Lecturer
PhD Marc Morell is a social anthropologist researching the class dynamics of space production in capitalist society. His previous fieldwork in Majorca and Malta focused on tourism policy, heritage-making, and gentrification. He is currently conducting research in Riga and Vilnius on the political economy of the arts and its interplay with emerging social movements in urban Baltic contexts.
