„…csak emberség van, és a gyilkosságnál is nagyobb bűn, ha valaki embertelen, ha valaki durva, ha valaki fennhéjázó, amiért egy kés sem elég megtorlás, és a legnagyobb erény a lényegbe ható, figyelmes tisztaszívűség, mert többet, gyökeresebbet úgy sem tehetünk itt a földön” – írja Kosztolányi Dezső három évvel az Édes Anna regénye születése után, 1929-ben. És most? 2023-ban? Ma mi az, hogy emberség és mi az, hogy embertelenség? Ma mi a legnagyobb bűn és mi a legnagyobb erény? Egyáltalán kérdések-e ezek manapság vagy már máshol tart a világ? A közel százéves regény nyomán gondolkozhatni el mindezen!

„...nu există decât umanitatea și este o crimă mai mare decât omorul să fii inuman, să fii nepoliticos, să fii arogant, pentru care nici măcar un cuțit nu constituie o pedeapsă suficientă, în timp ce cea mai mare virtute este o gândire, o inimă pură, care merge la miezul problemei, pentru că nu există nimic mai important, nimic mai radical, pe care îl putem face aici, pe pământ” – scria Dezső Kosztolányi la trei ani după crearea romanului său Édes Anna, în 1929. Dar acum? În 2023? Ce înseamnă astăzi umanitatea și ce înseamnă inumanitatea? Care este cel mai mare păcat astăzi și care ar fi cea mai mare virtute? Mai sunt aceste întrebări relevante astăzi sau lumea se află deja într-un cu totul alt loc? Vă invităm să reflectați la toate acestea pornind de la un roman vechi de aproape un secol!

„...there is only humanity, and it is a greater crime than murder to be inhuman, to be rude, to be arrogant, for which not even a knife is enough retribution, whereas the greatest virtue is a thoughtful, pure-heartedness that goes to the heart of the matter, because there is nothing more, nothing more radical, that we can do here on earth” – wrote Dezső Kosztolányi three years after the creation of his novel Édes Anna, in 1929. How about now? In 2023? What does humanity mean today and what is inhumanity? What is the greatest sin today and what is the greatest virtue? Are these even relevant questions today, or is the world already in a completely different place? Reflect on all this based on a novel that is almost a century old!
