« Ce qui a commencé comme une simple blague lors d'une soirée décontractée avec des amis dans un salon suisse devrait très vite se transformer en un projet de collaboration musicale sérieuse, d'échange culturel et d'amitié. À la question d'un ami syrien sur la date à laquelle nous visiterions le Moyen-Orient, j'ai répondu : "Quand tu nous réserveras une tournée là-bas". Quelques mois plus tard, j'ai reçu un appel téléphonique d'Elsa Boghos (l'amie syrienne et maintenant manager du groupe) : "J'ai des musiciens au Liban qui sont intéressés à t'accueillir et à jouer avec toi." – Florian Hoesl
Ainsi, en septembre 2022, le groupe DRUCKMITTEL était en route pour Beyrouth pour rencontrer Ziad El Ahmadie (oud) et Nidal Abou Samra (saxophone). L'alchimie phénoménale que le groupe a développée en quelques jours a créé une ambiance si envoûtante que les musiciens et le public ont ressenti le besoin imminent d'en savoir plus et "The Lucerne – Beirut
Connection" est né. Malgré tous les efforts, le groupe a immédiatement commencé à se réunir à travers les continents tous les deux mois et a rapidement développé son propre style musical, traversant les cultures musicales sans aucun besoin de stéréotypes. Tous les membres composent et le répertoire ne peut donc pas être décrit par un seul genre. La musique principalement originale fusionne des éléments du jazz contemporain, du funk et de la musique minimaliste et orientale pour créer quelque chose de nouveau, tandis que des rythmes et des mélodies stimulants sont présentés si clairement que le public n'est jamais laissé seul. Le groupe n'a pas non plus peur de travailler avec des paroles et des mélodies arabes traditionnelles bien connues, un autre défi que la fraction européenne du groupe accepte avec plaisir.

«What started as a simple joke during a casual night with some friends in a Swiss living room should very soon develop into a project of serious musical collaboration, cultural exchange and friendship. To the question of a Syrian friend when we would visit the Middle East I replied: “When you book us a tour down there.” A couple months later I received a phone call from Elsa Boghos (the Syrian friend and now manager of the band): “I have you some musicians in Lebanon who are interested in hosting you and playing with you.» - Florian Hoesl
So out of the blue in September 2022 the band DRUCKMITTEL was on its way to Beirut to meet Ziad El Ahmadie (oud) and Nidal Abou Samra (saxophone). The phenomenal chemistry the group developed within these few days created such a mesmerizing vibe that both musicians and audience felt the imminent need for more and “The Lucerne – Beirut Connection” was born. Despite all efforts, the group instantly started to get together across continents every couple months and quickly developed its own musical style, crossing musical cultures without any needs for stereotypes. All members compose and so the repertoire can’t be described with just one genre. Mostly original music merges elements from Contemporary Jazz, Funk and Minimal and Oriental Music into something new, while challenging rhythms and melodies are presented so clearly that the audience is never left alone. The group is also not afraid to work with well-known traditional Arabic lyrics and melodies, another challenge the European fraction of the band happily accepts.

Was als einfacher Witz an einem lockeren Abend in einem Schweizer Wohnzimmer begann, sollte sich sehr schnell zu einem Projekt unter einem Stern von ernsthafter musikalischer Zusammenarbeit, kulturellem Austausch und Freundschaft entwickeln. Auf die Frage einer Freundin aus Syrien, wann wir denn einmal den Nahen Osten besuchen kämen, antwortete ich: «Wenn du uns eine Tour da unten buchst.» Einige Monate später bekam ich einen Anruf von dieser Freundin, jetzt Managerin der Band: «Ich kenne da ein paar Musiker im Libanon, die Lust haben mit euch zu spielen.» - Florian Hoesl
Also machte sich die Luzerner Jazzformation DRUCKMITTEL im September 2022 aus heiterem Himmel auf nach Beirut, um dort Ziad El Ahmadie (Oud) und Nidal Abou Samra (Sax) zu treffen. Die Chemie, die sich in so wenigen Tagen der Zusammenarbeit entwickelte, war so berauschend, dass sowohl das Publikum als auch die Musiker den unmittelbaren Drang nach mehr verspürten. Trotz aller widrigen Umstände kommt die Band alle paar Monate über zwei Kontinente zusammen. Von Beginn an entwickelte sich ein Stil, der musikalische Kulturen überschreitet und ohne Stereotypen auskommt. Alle Bandmitglieder schreiben Musik und so kann der Sound nicht in Schubladen gepackt werden. In hauptsächlich Eigenkompositionen kommen Elemente aus Jazz, Funk, Minimal, zeitgenössischer und orientalischer Musik zusammen, wobei komplexe Rhythmen und Melodien so klar präsentiert werden, dass das Publikum immer abgeholt ist. Die Gruppe hat zudem keine Angst davor bekannte traditionelle arabische Texte und Melodien zu bearbeiten. Eine Herausforderung, die vor allen die europäische Fraktion der Band gerne annimmt.
