Making twisted cord is one of the oldest skills known to mankind. While the cord itself has not survived, depictions of the cord can be found on prehistoric images. it is the precursor of spun thread and can be don with any fiber. To early man it was a tool for binding things together and would have often been made if grasses and thin vines. Now we use a variety of fibers and fabrics that are made into decorative cords for timing up presents, making jewelry, and other purposes.Join us for the first $5 Friday of 2026 to learn the history of this simple technique and make a bit yourself. We will have a variety of fiber remnants to pick from, or if you have something at home you'd like to use we'll see what we can do. We won't be open in time to take pre-registration, but this one is straightforward enough that we'll keep taking folks until we run out of room.
