Now in it’s fifteenth year, Make Music New York is a unique festival of free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City. All of the performances take place annually on June 21st, the first day of summer and longest day of the year. Completely different from a typical music festival,
Performance Schedule
2pm: YuRong Yu – “Annie” is a professional singer from China. Singing traditional and popular Chinese songs for various audiences in cities in China including Shanghai, and Huainan City in Anhui Province. In New York City, she has performed at Flushing Town Hall, the Flushing Library and Make Music NY in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Annie performs traditional and popular Chinese songs, and expanding her repertoire by adding popular American songs.
3pm: Already boasting sold-out Carnegie Hall recitals, and selection as an honoree in the 2018 Mandarin Leader Magazine, violinist Pei-Wen Liao continues to be known as a “compelling” and “deeply passionate” artist. A recent first prize winner of 2020 Alexander & Buono International String Competition, Ms. Liao has performed as a soloist with more than twenty orchestras in twelve countries across three continents. By thirteen, Ms. Liao had already sold-out a recital at Carnegie Weill Hall. She then made her debut in China in 2010, performing as a soloist on a 13-concert tour. Since then, she has been invited back to perform in China for seven consecutive years and has performed in at least 30 cities across China. More recent engagements have included a private solo performance for the President of Honduras and solo performances at the United Nations, Capitol Hill, the Oculus, and Bryant Park.
4pm: Vivi Hu is a NYC-based singer who is specialized in jazz, R&B/Soul, and Chinese folk music. She dedicated to produce, perform, and teach music that can uplift and soothe your soul. ​Vivi’s vocal and performance styles connect the traditional and the popular that evoke rhythm and dynamic reminiscent of renowned jazz and soul artists such as Anita O’Day and Sade Adu. To date, she has lent her talents to several high-profile performances and festivals in both China and the United States including Gulangyu Music Hall in Xiamen, the Summer Music Festival in Shanghai, and the Taihu Midi Festival in Suzhou, as well as the United Nations Headquarters, Flushing Town Hall, Museum of Chinese in America, and Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Festival in New York City, among many others.
5pm: Lulu Chen is an independent producer/film composer/pianist from Taiwan. She received her Bachelor in Film Scoring from Berklee College of Music. She has played in various venues including the Cats Musical tours and off broadway shows. Her film score has won top prize in London independent film festivals. Her music style combines elements of orchestral, acoustic, electronic, and synthesised genres to create imaginative and diverse soundscape. In 2010-2021 She also produced two hip hop singles with Hip Hop artist C2deuxJ.
